Poughkeepsie & Hudson Valley Ratings Spring 2012
« on: July 20, 2012, 02:48:19 PM »

The Poughkeepsie ratings book came out yesterday. It is really skewed without the Pamal and Cumulus Stations subscribing, and thus not listed at all. The list of stations is actually very small with only Clear Channel and independent WDST listed. I had had hoped what effect WBWZ's flip had on not only themselves but also WPDH and if WCZX picked up their former listeners. This list shows little to talk about.

On an unrelated note, I noticed  last night that Clear Channels WKIP and WJIP are carrying the Hudson Valley Renegades games. I just noticed it last night so I don’t if it is just home games or both home and away. There is no mention of the Renegades on WKIP site or the Renegades except for link to listen to all games, so I suspect radio might be home games only

I have two links to show you that there's not enough going on the HV and Poughkeepsie books. I guess that "Fox Oldies" is building strength on 98.9 with a 4.2. As you know, CBS-FM celebrated its 40th anniversary 2 weeks ago where they play the same music that you'll hear on "Fox Oldies" which harkened back to 7/7/72 when CBS-FM began playing the oldies. I've also heard that "Fox Oldies" plays "Runaround Sue" by Dion and it was the very first song that it was played on CBS-FM 40 years ago back on 7/7/72. And I also point that out that they brought in some longtime CBS-FM listeners and now former Boston's WODS listeners to the table since the station flipped to CHR a few weeks ago when it is now "Amp Radio". The station is playing a lot of 1955-63 pre-Beatles songs that CBS-FM plays, and still no specialty shows including no doo-wop show being heard on some speciality. I rather tune to WKNY every Saturday afternoon playing 2 hours of nothing but doo-wop with Warren Lawrence, but I'm a huge doo-wop fan for years, but I predicting that I would live to have Rick McCaffery back to "Fox Oldies" along with Gary Lee Schwartz. Rick was last heard on WBPM's former "Cool 92.9" back in 2007 before Pamal took over, and then at WKIP back in February 2007 until it ended around Halloween 2009, but he hasn't been heard on any HV stations regularly, but I would love to bring Rick McCaffery coming out of his retirement and bring back the "Solid Gold Jukebox" on "Fox Oldies". I love Rick McCaffery so much and I missed him a lot playing some favorites as well as the "Doo-Wop Cruise". I hope Rick should bring it back to "Fox Oldies" soon.

To get back to it, nothing has been going on, but WBWZ went to a rock format as "Rock 93.3", but it went back to its roots after the loss of Hot AC's "Star 93.3" back in March. A lot of former "Star" listeners ended up with WCTW's "The Cat" at 98.5 in Catskill since it never reached Poughkeesie.

As for the rest, nothing seem to have ratings.

And as for the rest, whatever happened to WPDH, WCZX, WPKF, WSPK, WDST, WRWD, WKXP, WZAD and WBPM? They put a blank in there which means that there's no ratings at the moment. Is Arbitron changed its minds or it might be the last ratings book before going into PPM?

WDST is there. Like I said at the top of this thread  All  rest of the stations you mention are owned by Pamal and Cumulus which do not subscribe to Arbitron and per Arbitron's   new policy not to list non-subscribing stations  , thus  they are not listed at all. Oddly, WBPM is listed   with a .6, but owned by Clear Channel, which of course is wrong. NO THEY ARE NOT GOING PPM IN THIS MARKET

Both public links are actually worth less than nothing. Any discussion is a complete waste of time unless you know the breakdowns.

and here i thought it was just my computer!!!

so, just to throw it out there, why would a majority of the hv stations NOT show up on the spring book? really, bro? are they really trying to hide something? i mean ... even the flagship stations (wpdh, wspk) not showing up? really?

what is really going on here? is this a sign of a trend? Shocked

No the answer is very simple. Stations that are not paying for the book, don't get published anymore. Subscribers only can see all the numbers.

Thanks for that info. I don't see why WSPK, WKXP, WCZX, WPDH and WRRV never showed up in the ratings. It's just a .0, but I don't want to jump to conclusion on this one. WBPM had the lowest rating in the book. A .6 to be exact, that is so terrible. Bob Miller sounded terrible in the morning, but he's an oldies guy, why not move Bob Miller back to "Fox Oldies" since he did a terrible morning show. Tell the people at WGNY's "Fox Oldies" to bring Bob Miller back to the station. He did fill-ins for Joe Manglass back in September until his last show back on October 21st of last year before going to WBPM. Bob Miller is an oldies guy, but he could not play anything but classic rock, but he will play them on "Fox Oldies". Put it on one of the weekend shifts and you'll get the ratings. And the rest of WBPM's format, it was garbage, here's a suggestion, why not change the format to something else, and then move the WBPM calls back to 94.3 where it belong and bring the legendary "B94" back to CHR. This hasn't happened since 1999 when Robert Maxwell and his family sold the station.

To get back into the swing of things, WPKF's "Kiss-FM" did okay, but maybe will bring some "K104's" audience to the station, but "K104's" ratings in the Poughkeepsie book are none didn't show up! Way to go Arbitron!!! "Kiss-FM" ties with "Fox Oldies".

There is also one station that didn't show up in the Poughkeepsie and Hudson Valley books is WRWD. It is not on that lists. What a screwball! None of these stations showed up.

I hope Aribtron needs to fix that in the next Fall book.

Dizzy FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WILL YOU PLEASE GIVE UP ON B94!!!!! It has been 13 years it is never coming back. No matter what the topic you frequently launch into another rant about B94!

For the 1,000 time these are REAL people working at REAL radio stations owned by REAL broadcasting companies. They are NOT toys or game pieces you can just move around at will! If you were Bob Miller, would you want to go back to part time at WGNY??? I think not!!

Using your ''logic'(Sarcasm alert) Why don’t we move the aforementioned stations over to Clear Channel so they will be rated?! BTW WBPM plays classic rock WGNY does not.

I’ll give you one point WRWD does not show up in the list. Apparently Arbitron screwed up there. Perhaps it has to do with WBPM, owned by Pamal not Clear Channel showing up in the ratings.
As for why the rest of the stations try to read the posts above to find out why they are not listed

I am changing my pre-sets as I speak!

I will try to put this simply. note: I am not defending Arbitron. Arbitron is in business to make money the unlisted stations are not paying for their service, so they are trying to force them to do so by not giving them any information they could try to use, even if it is really just for public consumption and is useless for sponsors. END OF TOPIC!

To the rest of you my apologies I had to get that off my chest
