Free-FM In Portland?
« on: December 26, 2005, 10:52:45 AM »

Not sure how many noticed, but the domain "freefmportland.com" was registered by CBS in October. Given the news that the alternative station in Phoenix that used to carry Stern is switching to "Free-FM" next week, wonder if that is the same plan for KUFO as well.

No, I hadn't realized it - most people have seen the extra "freefm1067.com," realized that WJFK is already "1067freefm.com," and have speculated that 106.7 K-Lite will be another Free FM, since the only other 106.7 Infinity currently owns is 106.7 in LA, and 97.1 is already Free FM there.

It was also rumored earlier this year that K-Lite would flip to Jack FM, but Entercom beat them to the punch with 97.1 Charlie FM.

This opens up the possibilities a bit, here are all the FMs CBS owns in Portland:
98.7 KUPL - Heritage Country station.  I seriously doubt they'll throw in the towel.
101.1 KUFO - They're getting Carolla... and they already have Marconi (yes, THAT Marconi).  (If KUFO flips, it'll leave the market without a Rock station.  Sounds sorta familiar to what's going on it other markets.)
101.9 KINK - Heritage Triple A.  Another station that I seriously doubt is changing.
106.7 KLTH - The already much-rumored K-Lite... they're currently back to playing AC as before going All-Christmas.
107.5 KVMX - A longtime 80s station that did a "Commercial-Free Christmas."

Speaking of which, I came to ask whether KCMD had moved Leykis and Hendrie to tape delay. I would think their recent 12+ blip was a result of these shows, yet their website shows them at both 3-7/7-10 and 5-8/8-11.

Nobody jumped their current format ship.
KUPL is still Country.
KUFO is still Rock.
KINK is still AAA.
KLTH is still AC
KVMX is still 80s.

Additionally, freefmportland.com and freefm1067.com come up as not found.
