Great thread. However, let's keep in mind that this is NOT going to be a PD search that is over in a week or two. XL106-7 is one of the most well-known CHR'S in the country, and especially after the mess they've been gotten into, they're not going to take any risks whatsoever. That being said, I'm going to throw out some names...I'm totally talking out of my ass here, so I'll probably be way off, but whatever.
First, and perhaps most obvious, would be someone already in the building - Jana Sutter. She's already APD and MD, she has previous PD experience (at the late WZNY-Augusta), and is acting PD now, so I imagine she'll be dealing with much of the programming duties and damage control necessary over the next few weeks and months anyway.
Another name that came to mind is Toby Knapp. He has ties to the area anyhow, as he was APD/Afternoons at FLZ, and has done well at WNOK-Columbia. Hell, his VT'ed mid-dayer there is none other than Jana, and now that I think about it, I see a number of similarities between XL and NOK. What about Tommy Chuck, who has done big things at WQEN-Birmingham? Maybe Boomer, formally of KSLZ-St. Louis?
Another possibility is that they could bring in someone currently in an APD/MD role in a bigger market. Kane and Kasper immediately came to mind...I don't see it happening for the latter though, as he just moved back to Cleveland fairly recently and he has family ties there anyway. I suppose Kane could be a possibility... Tampa's just down I-4 anyway, so he could maybe even stick around and still do some weekend/swing stuff for FLZ if he wanted to. Or how about Michael Yo or Donnie Michaels out of HYI? Albie Dee out of WIHT-Washington?
Just some thoughts...

Seems I wasn't the only one who figured that Toby would be a good fit for XL PD. At the moment, he is PD at 104.7 WNOK in Columbia, as I stated above. Matter of fact, they just went #1 12+ (I know, it doesn't matter, but obviously they're doing well in the demos) and Toby is featured in this week's "10 Questions" column on All Access.

I wouldn't expect a PD to be named anytime soon. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if one of the other mangers in CC Orlando is put in charge of WXXL as well as their current duties. Orlando is a market where the PD position has not been phased out as it has in other CC clusters. Correct me if I'm wrong but while Byrd is the GM and Kampmeier is the Ops manager, they've still got individual PDs at 100, 101, 104, 107, and 740 if I'm not mistaken. Adam Cook was a carry over from the previous owners of 106.7 and only pulled a 2-3 hour shift anyway. From a budget standpoint, Katherine Brown, Ken Payne, or the PD of Rumba 100.3 (not sure of the name) could probably oversee 106.7 as well with Jana handling the day to day music operations. Tampa's management has been trimmed to around 3-4 people who call all the shots and the very same could eventually be in store for the Orlando cluster. I'm actually surprised the management hasn't been trimmed in that office before now.
