Is Garth really gone? Yes!
« on: February 04, 2006, 08:33:31 AM »

Did Renda finally learn of Maiers in-experience?

Did Renda give him a choice to resign or be fired?

And if any, what other radio station will he try to shanghi
into believing he is qualified to program a newstalk station?

Now that KOKC has a chance to step up will Tony Renda
finally hire a qualified PD to take the station the next level?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Well, here's what Tony Boy knows Smiley.

I don't know a lot about Garth.

Garth and I met at the Metro Traffic studios when I was offered the job as Director of Operations of Metro in Oklahoma City.

I subsequently turned down the job primarly because I wanted to remain in Richardson, a suburb of Dallas.

Garth was extremely personable, gracious and kind to me.  He and I never worked together.  But we chatted for about two hours.

Garth seemed most knowledgable about radio.  He does a lot of church work and preaches. I believe him to be a man of the highest moral character.

I was most impressed by Garth personally, but I do not know much about his radio background other than he worked his way up from several smaller markets, including Tyler.  When I heard him doing news headlines on KOMA-FM when I visited Oklahoma City, I noticed that he had an excellent voice for news anchoring.

From my brief meeting with Garth, he seems to be a fine man. I wish him the best.

Tony

From what I hear, nope on a real P.D. They are just looking for someone to execute the orders from on-high from what I hear. An organized trained monkey could do better than Garth has IMHO.

I too know Garth and he is a nice guy.

Not sure Tony has the money to hire a BIG GUN.

Why kick a man when he has lost a job?

What's the point?

Do you delight in such comments?

Hey, if you work in radio long enough, you will lose your job because that is radio.

Geez Tony, who peed in your Cheerios? This board doesn't need you to scold someone everytime they say something you don't like. It appears that some people don't like Garth. It's their right not to! Let them enjoy that right!

Hey, I just don't understand people who don't like someone they have never met.

And, answer this:  Have YOU ever met Garth?

I just said why kick a guy when he has lost a job, OK?

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Get it?

Or not?

By the way, aren't you scolding me ... now?

Think ...

First off Tony, you should know that there are many people including myself that did work with him.  Many of these people were fired by him because he convinced corporate that he could run a fulltime NewsTalk radio station with only two people on staff. Himself and the morning guy.  Not only did the station have better ratings before then, but the people that were canned had more talent and years of experience in this business than he had in his small toe.  Unfortunate for corporate it's obvious by the ratings that hiring an individual with limited knowledge and experience of the industry clearly
was a bad move. But hey...you reap what you soe.

Hopefully that gives you a more clearer picture that many of these same people that had any involvement with him whatsoever are absolutely thrilled that he has decided to move on. This by the way is the truth. Garth gave his notice.  He was not fired.

So the next time you rake on someone you say never knew the guy, you should think again. You should also be aware that this board is full of opinions and shares the rights of the First Amendment.  If this sort of right disgusts you then you should pack your bags and move to a third world country.  They would love to have you.

Hey, I said I never worked for him -- only met him and enjoyed talking to him.

I know nothing about his time at KOMA-AM.

Again, I have no knowledge of his tenure at KOMA/KOKC.

I simply asked the other guy if he knew Garth.

You did, and you expressed your opinion.

I read it OK?

No big deal.

I met Garth once and related my experience with him.  It was positive.  That is all I know.

You should also be aware that

You are mixed up man.

You have no First Amendment rights on Radio-Info ... none.

It is privately operated and owned.

They can deleted anything and everything if they wished.

Fortunately, Safford gives us wide latitude.

But again, you are totally confused about First Amendment rights on Radio-Info.  You simply have no First Amendment rights.

Go on the LA board.  You will see what I mean.

Besides, if you know that little about the First Amendment, you had no business in a newsroom.

For the record, I worked as a reporter on radio, "The Daily Oklahoman" and UPI.

Again, you do not know what you are talking about.

You are totally confused about First Amendment rights.

Check into Journalism 101.

You need, my friend.
