Wayne Dowdy, as in the former Mississippi congressman? Well, good for him. Hope it turns out well for him. Also, is he related to the Dowdys that own Kicker 108 and other stations in the state and Louisiana?

Wow...that's a lot of stations: WMJU, WAZA, WBKN, WAKH-FM/AM, WHNY, WAPF... I grew up in Brookhaven and that's practically every station anyone listens to, except for Jackson stations. Jackson doesn't come in that well, anyway.

I also wonder what he will do with 92.1. Country is played out. Urban would do quite well, actually. Brookhaven and the surrounding areas have quite a large black population.

Wayne Dowdy is Morgan Dowdy's brother. Morgan runs most of the stations. Wayne is lawyer. Their father, the late Charles Dowdy started with WROA in Gulfport. They own more than just the Ms. & La. stations mentioned. They own several in Ga. and Tx. also.

Chris,
When did you grow up in B'haven. I graduated BHS, and Co-Lin, worked at CLJC's campus station when it started back (thanks in great part to then Congressman Wayne Dowdy's help with some FCC problems and some donations of well used equipment from some of the family's stations, IIRC).

I've been very interested in this sell, and the recent sell of Hazlehurst (used to be WMDC- AM/FM) and Monticello to the goofy statewide talk network there. MDC was my first commercial radio gig... studio used to be in an old house on Highway 51. Worst radio memory of my life was when a VERY DRUNK listener with a gun came banging on the front door and it sprang open... I don't think I did ANYTHING right the rest of that night shift!

Mr. Wayne Dowdy was also an announcer at Channel 12 - WJTV when he was attending Millsaps College.
