My Network in Madison
« on: March 08, 2006, 06:07:25 PM »

UPN 14 will become the Madison, WI affiliate of My Network TV.  UPN 14 is run by WISC-TV and airs on their digital subchannel 3.2 as well as on cable channel 14 in that market.  Direct TV also carries the station.

No real surprise as Acme Communications, the owner of WBUW, and Warner Bros have very close ties, namely one Jamie Kellner who is a co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Acme.    between Warner Bros. and Acme.

Actually, My Network is a Fox/20th TV production, not Warner Bros.(WB & CBS`re working together on "The CW"). At least Kellner/Acme aren`t biased against a WB competitor though.

I think the OP is talking about two different stations - "UPN 14", the WISC-DT subchannel that's taking My Network TV, and WBUW/57, the Acme-owned WB affiliate.

They're expecting WBUW to become CW due to the ties with Acme/WB...which leaves "UPN 14" with My.

Here's a Capital Times online article on the UPN14/MY switch.

The article's third paragraph states that WB57 (ACME's WBUW) will indeed become the CW affiliate this fall.  This sounds like inaccurate speculation on the article writer's part.  The last I checked, there's been no official announcement that WB57 will be joining CW... which is not to say that they won't, just that it's not official yet.

On a side note, has anyone heard of any launch date for CW?  MY has been already announced as starting up on Tuesday September 5.

You can also add La Crosse/Eau Claire to the list, where WKBT's new digital subchannel will join MY TV as well.  This is reported on WKBT's website.

It should be noted that both WISC and WKBT have the same owner, The Morgan Murphy/Evening Post Broadcasting Group, and that both these UPN-to-MY digital subchannels have a presence on cable systems.  (WKBT's started earlier this year after the former over-the-air home of UPN dropped that network.)  WB already has a cable presence in La Crosse/Eau Claire, and that channel may very well be CW's home come September.

I just love the line about My Network TV "allowing us to choose our own programming".

Just once, I'd like to see these station owners say in their "we've got a new network" public statements that "we chose My Network TV because it was somewhat cheaper than The CW".

Cheesy

But you know as well as I do that ain't gonna happen.  PR people won't let it.

And I ain't even in the biz.  I'm just your "Average Joe" (Or, in my case, your "Average Pat" Smiley ) TV buff.  Smiley
