Lu Valentino at WMEZ
« on: April 03, 2006, 11:04:09 PM »

I haven't talked to Lu muself, but I did talk to someone over at the station. I didn't really get too many details, but the way I understand Lu resigned simply because she was no longer happy with her position at WMEZ, and she really liked working middays but she had gotten moved back to mornings, which she obviously thought was not in her best interest at this point in her career. She decided it was best for her (and the station) to move on to bigger and better things, and we've all had that thought at one time or another. There were rumors flying around that she got fired, but she resigned and it was her decision and her decision alone.

No word yet on if/when WMEZ will get a replacement for her. If I hear anything, I will let you know.

In AC, Mid-day is Prime Time!

10A-3P is where AC stations put their best talent. That's where the biggest audience and biggest ratings are. Maybe she understood that and management didn't. And getting one's ass out of bed at 4 AM just adds insult to injury!

I'm around the other radio industry exec's in nw florida all the time...I never heard once anything about that she was fired. Must of been the rumor only in the WMEZ/XBM building. From what I understand, and read in the all the trades in the past 5 months, it was obvious she wasn't happy and we all knew it was only a matter of time before she resigned.(Like Kevin Peterson, Annie Sommers & Michael Stuart)She had the best and only ratings on that station.

They wanted to put her back on mornings to help am drive numbers and the in-experienced new PD they have in there HAS to have an air shift.(BTW he is God aweful STILL to listen to) WHY they would make a stupid move to put their BEST air talent on with a morning guy who is obviously DONE in this biz is beyond me. I agree with the last post, SHE understood and management has no clue. Moving her to mornings was NOT the only reason, I know there was a laundry list. I had spoken with a former PD of her's last week. She is a true professional and saw a disaster from the get go. From what he said, Valentino has a ton of offers right now, it's just a matter of time of where we'll hear her next. ME and the wifee wish you the best Valentino!
