Fox 11/LA Weekend Sports
« on: April 17, 2006, 05:30:18 PM »

Watching the Fox 11 sports segment last night, a story came up about Albert Pujols' three home run day. I was floored when the girl doing sports, Gina Silva, mispronounced his last name as "Poo-Johls." Really?!? I assume KTTV doesn't employ a weekend sports anchor, and according to her bio she is a general assignment reporter. But I don't think that's any excuse for a network O&O in Market #2(especially the one that carries the MLB rights) to butcher the name of the riegning NL MVP. If sports is such an after thought at Fox 11, why even do a sports segment at all?

I've always thought with the resources of their sister cable sports networks, FSN West and Prime Ticket, that both KTTV and KCOP should turn over the sports segment to those guys, at least there, you actually have sports-centric people anchoring those reports.  Besides, 11 and 13 would be the last two places I would get my sports news from.

> Perhaps it was just a slip of the tongue. You've got to expect that - especially when the anchor or reporter is live.  I watched CBS-5's (KPIX) 1906 Earthquake Anniversary Special last night.  In a pre-recorded segment narrated by News Anchor Dana King, she talked about the chaos after the earthquake, and noted that the US Army sent in the "calvary."  Obviously, "cavalry" was the word she meant - "calvary" is a religious term referring the the crucifixion of Christ. I don't what Dana's IQ is, but I assume she's reasonably intelligent, so we can cut her some slack.  Obviously, the editor didn't catch the mistake either.
