Wired's Rocco Rips Off O&A
« on: June 27, 2005, 05:59:02 PM »

Wired 96.5's morning "personality" Rocco is blatantly ripping off the Opie & Anthony "Assault On The Media" concept, word for word.

Why on earth does this guy have a morning gig in one of the biggest markets in the country? Has Jerry Clifton no ears?

I can't answer your questions, but I'll pose one of my own.  What the f do you expect from Ben Maxwell, who's claim to fame was playing second fiddle to Barsky for chrissake, and then does his lame-a$$ impersonation of Vinnie the Crumb and calls himself Rocco The Janitor?  You really aren't expecting originality, are you?  Make that 2 questions.

Why would they keep him on? Is he cheap labor? Do they actually think he's good?

What do you expect fom a station that gives away "ishloads" of money? Who's bad? Not Wired 96.5. A-wipes. What a POS radio station.

I imagine Ben Maxwell thought the average listener to Wired would not also be listening to O and A on XM radio..and lifted their bit.

But I have not listened to either so I don't know what its all about.
I imagine regular listeners of both shows..O and A and Rocco would never know
the difference. I doubt these shows share the same listeners.  And I mean non professional radio people listeners.  Odd the Author of this post just happened to hear it on both shows.  Very odd..Smiley

Again...you're missing the point. That doesn't make it right. It just points out how unbelievably untalented, uncreative and unworthy of his position Rocco is.

Stuff like that pisses me off. I could imagine a DJ in a small market ripping off a high profile show like O&A's word for word. But once you get to the majors, you should really start coming up with your own $hit.

I can't believe I'm the only one that feels this way. Unbelievable...

When did he do this?  Nothing is mentioned on the website about it.  I would think if this was something major it would be there.  I'm out of the area so I don't know.  Thanks!

Bits are ripped of all the time in radio. People steal ideas all the time.
You steal my bit, I'll steal yours. There are even radio conferences where morning shows from around the country get together once a year and swap ideas and bits, contests and the like. I'm not sticking up for Rocco, I don't even know him or his show, I am telling you though that it's a largely accepted practice. Ever hear of Bit Board? It's very existence is for the exchange of bits and ideas, stunts, etc.

Again...you're not hearing me.

Bit Boards are there to help aspring young small to medium market "jocks" find their voice. Once a jock gets to NY, LA or Philly...they are expected to come up with they're own $hit.

Just because you say it is a "largely accepted practice", doesn't make it right!
