The King of All will be back on real radio and soon. Like O & A he's going to get tired of talking to a cume of about 600,000. O & A's stunts with dim witted listeners waving signs on TV live shots was a pathetic grasp at new cume. Stern's gotta be tapping the mic each morning and saying: "Is this thing on...?" And meanwhile kicking himself that O & A beat him to the punch. The yap about the FCC and the "F**K button" is just a smoke screen. How long till the novelty of saying the "F" word wears off? The charm of Howard and O & A was they ways they found to work around it all. Their euphemisms were far more fun and entertaining than plain old dirty words.

Real Radio, Analog Radio - same thing..So IF Stern does this and pees his pants, will it affect KISW?

Methinks not. As noted elsewhere BJ is doing a good job holding the old Stern audience.  My money's on KNDD - especially if Carolla continues to be a non-factor in mornings.

I don't know if BJ should get full credit for "holding" sterns audience. The difference between KISW and most other stations around the country that have dismal post stern ratings is that those stations went through a  complete overhaul (free-fm) and what listeners were accustomed to hearing, (stupid contests and games, sex talk, hot chicks etc.) they no longer could find on those stations. BJ offers something similar (albeit with a tenth of the talent that stern and his crew had) but the fact is here in Seattle, for folks that dig stuff like that, they really don't have any other options. I mean Rivers did grab some of Sterns audience, but for the most part, most of the people that listened to Sterns show really wouldn't go for the type of show that Bob Rivers and crew offer.

I don't think you're giving B.J. enough credit.  His has a pretty good talk show in its own right.  Is Stern better ... sure, but B.J. is local and his show is not a complete clone of Sterns' show either.  B.J. has been influenced at least as much by Tom Leykis as Stern -- he is even doing a Friday quick rundown of clips earlier in the week.  His show is much more topical than Sterns'.  The lack of "talent" on B.J.'s show is some of the appeal of listening.  He knows what he is doing -- the show becomes spontaneous and piques one's attention.  In that regard he has taken a lot from Stern.Rivers is the radio answer to the Jay Leno Show.  His is a conservative, predictable show that will get ratings.  Even listeners who are not regular fans will listen now and then.  Advertisers will forever love him.A challenge for Stern is that his show needs to hold more of a national appeal.   It still sounds like it is for East Coast audiences primarily, and the listener spends time listening to how good of a time he and his crew are having.  Well, I am happy for them, but I could not care less.  If he airs on conventional radio, one reason may well be that he is not that great, in spite of what he says about himself.I honestly believe him when he does say he is happy to be off terrestrial radio.  Howard does seem to be enjoying himself, and considering his contract how could he possibly consider changing back until 2011 at the earliest?  It would surprise the hell out of me if he had a dual broadcasting arrangement, considering that he brags about the exclusivity of content on Sirius.

Are you kidding?  Howard SOUNDS much happier now than he ever has been.  He is adamant that he's staying on satellite radio and I believe him

He wouldnt go back to FM if you paid him.... and they cant afford him.  His stint at Sirius has picked up millions of new subscribers, he likes being on the forefront of a new  medium like sat radio.  Who cares if he isnt heard by  as many as before?  For 500 million you wouldnt care if your audience was only 10 people..... and he loves the attention this brings him.  Stick around, Sirius has outsold XM the last 6 months.
