KMGS format?
« on: June 07, 2006, 08:38:52 PM »

What kind of talk format is being planned for KMGS? Although the sales price wasn't disclosed on R&R, IIRC they wanted $8-10 mil, which seems like quite a gamble to start another talk station with, seeing that there's plenty of news talk and a hot talker on FM.

For an idea of the future KMGS format, check the website of their soon-to-be sister station in Houston:http://www.ksevradio.com/

The new guy didn't buy the station. He got an LMA deal from First.

KSEV in Houston is also an LMA.  Figures KMGS would be the same sort of arrangement.

True, KSEV is owned by LBI (Liberman) the same wonderful folks who own KNOR and Channel 29..but I think eventually Patrick will BUY 1160...he is majority partner in the corporation doing the deal...if it IS a LMA, it wont be for long. If he could buy KSEV from LBI, he would (considering he pays over $1mill a month in lease last I knew)...

Yep, KMGS is being SOLD....Radio and Records has the facts:http://www.radioandrecords.com/Newsroom/2006_06_02/dallasbroadcasting.aspDallas Broadcasting ConductsKMGS/Dallas Purchase   The company, led by majority owner and local Republican politician Dan Patrick, today acquired KMGS-AM from First Broadcasting Co. for an undisclosed price pending FCC approval. KMGS was recently upgraded to 35kw, giving the station a booming signal over the entire market. Michael J. Bergner of Bergner & Co. was the exclusive broker in the transaction.============================================================They will take over programming before Labor Day...which will PROBABLY be a LMA...but they are buying it. You dont use such a broker in a LMA Smiley

No way does Patrick pay $1 Million a month.  Leased stations in Houston go for $65K/month at the BizRadio level.  Patrick may be paying at the higher end of the scale, but no way is he paying Liberman a mil a month and no way will Liberman ever sell.  He doesn't sell anything.  He acquires and generates lots of cash flow.

Betcha the figure is one megadollar per year for KSEV, which would make more sense.  Probably too much considering the crummy nighttime signal, but a very sharply defined demographic target brings in some $$$.Liberman will hang on to KSEV.  The same with KJOJ 880, a Vietnamese language LMA.
