Seattle-Tacoma '06 Spring Arbitrends (M,A,M) are out and NOT a WORD!?
« on: June 30, 2006, 07:09:59 PM »

Unless everyone's split and hangin' on Alki for the long 4th of July weekend, I can't believe there isn't ONE post thus far on the latest Seattle-Tacoma Arbitrends!!  Let's hear from the experts, prognasticators, and analysts!  There ARE some surprises!

OK...we can start by asking M.K. if he STILL doesn't think there are enough numbers to support the "Hot AC" format (see B.Virgin column when Movin launched).  Even without playing any of their Holiday tunes so far this year, Sandusky has given Fisher "Christmas in July".

And we'd make a big deal about KOMO besting KIRO in this trend - but anybody with some sense knows that's a statistical anomaly and KIRO will be back, stronger than ever when the full book comes out.  But don't tell that to anyone working at the palace.

If any of you guys or gals really know what is going on (read: if any of you really work in the business) you've seen the 18-34 and 25-54 numbers. That's where the fun stuff is looming.

Let's just say Thursday wasn't a happy day at KMPS.

I read somewhere that this was going to be "the country battle of the year". From the sidelines, it's a fun one to watch.

If you want to see something even more scary, look at the monthly extrap!

I don't think its too early to tell that Sandusky gave Fisher an early Christmas present. Fisher is looking up these days and Sandusky is looking pretty confused lately. Movin will be movin on out too soon for anyone in Seattle to care.

We all knew that some, if not most, of the displaced KLSY listeners would head over to KPLZ.  What is the suprise there???   Sandusky in confusion???  Wouldn't you be if you just shook up most of the group in a 1.5 month span.  I think this trend didn't tell anything that we already didn't know or expect, except (I know I will get railed for this) I think that the KQMV numbers are promising.  The KKWF/KMPS battle is getting interesting and what's up with BJ's Numbers???  That's the only suprise to me.

Agree!  Wasn't implying that Movin' won't cut it ... but hard to argue when your key demo share matches or beats the # of appendages on a hand.  With that kind of momentum ... my point was the perspective that "not enough audience for an adult A/C music station to make it" may not be all that accurate.   Doesn't mean I think the format has legs forever ... but when you take away splintering caused by two stations playing essentially the same thing ... one of them still has a chance.  The inverse may also be true ... when you have one country station kickin' (verb intentional) some serious hiney and SPLIT the audience ... it could be interesting to come up with a new, competitive strategy.

At very least rest of this year should be interesting to watch based on the fallout of the last six months.  Now it's the audience's turn to react!

I heard that BJ kicked butt this trend....Is that not the case? I've listened to his show on a handful of ocassions but prefer listening to Fitz over on the Wolf. You are right it will be an interesting battle between KMPS and The Wolf.
