Many stations have turned off their HD/IBOC exciters, due to listener complaints and adjacent-channel interference - WLW being one of them.

Just curious - how do you know WLW turned off IBOC (if it did) due to listener complaints?

Clear Channel has a corporate policy to put HD on every viable station in the 1180 station group. A number of cases, like the tower incident at KFI, have kept HD off of several of the stations. They will all eventually be on with HD. This is a publicly made statement by the executives of CCU.

I don't know for sure, since I haven't asked, but it sounds like WLW's sister WTAM/1100 is running IBOC now.  There's the trademark side-channel hiss on my GE SuperRadio, which has a wider than normal bandwidth.

I'm curious what Mr. SayNo will answer, though, about WLW.  I have no problem believing that the IBOC has (temporarily) been turned off for engineering reasons, but I think he's basically reading into the "listener complaints" part what is not there. i.e. "We hate it, we complained, they turned it off, they're answering our complaints."

OhioMediaWatch,

I personally emailed the station manager, about a month ago.  WLW, MAY experriment with it, in the future.  He didn't say why, they turned it off - it seemed, as if it was a touchy subject, like Clear Channel made them turn it on...

Darryl Parks, I presume?  He's quite accessible.  (BTW, he's not "the station manager", he's VP/operations for all the Clear Channel AM stations in Cincinnati.)

Did Mr. Parks specifically tell you that the IBOC carrier had been turned off due to listener complaints?

And it would appear that "experiment" or not, the eventual goal is to return it.

Again, with no consumer interest in HD Radio, and with Wi-Fi and wireless Internet going into automobiles, all these are moot points !

OK, I see you've gone back to the crystal ball, and aren't answering my questions.  Nice dodge! Smiley

Now, see...I'm not a part of the "HD Radio Choir".

But since you're not willing to have an honest discussion about it...I exit.  I could probably get a more honest discussion about Coca-Cola from someone named "PEPSI RULES".

Since Clear owns the station, and has a stated policy of being HD on every viable station, that would seem correct. After all, if the owners do not call the shots, who does?

Say, if I put a space before each exclamation point, does that automatically make my statements factual?

Hmm, let's try it.

I am a millionaire and own two mansions and three yachts !

Hmmm.  Guess I'm doing it wrong.

Anyway...

You are very amusing !  Cheesy  Hey, try reading down two posts:

OH !

BZZZT.  YOU ADDED THAT LAST LINE AFTER I REPLIED TO YOUR MESSAGE.

Don't believe me?  Go up there and read the "edit" time at the bottom of your post.  It is after my reply was posted.

You also did not answer my question about "listener complaints".  Nowhere in your *edited* post did you say anything that would lead ANYONE to believe that WLW turned off the IBOC carrier "due to listener complaints", as you stated earlier.  "Touchy subject" and "like Clear Channel made them turn it on" exist only in your mind.

I don't know why I bother with you...again, you're not having an HONEST discussion here.  And your move to make me look bad by pointing to a post you clearly edited after I replied to it... well, I have no answer for tactics like that.

Edited three minutes and 28 seconds after I posted the first reply, to be exact.
