The Adventures of Lionel on Liberal Talk...
« on: August 22, 2006, 02:33:16 PM »

Now that he doesn't have Rita Cosby to kick around as much anymore, it has been interesting following WOR's Lionel who is working on finding a niche for his show.  He seems to be heading more and more towards sensationalism topics (especially legal issues - surprise surprise) and is turning into the radio equivalent of MSNBC or Fox legal shows.  It's been almost all Jon Benet all the time on his show as of late.

It actually seems to be working for him, because he is very plain spoken about what is "crap" and what isn't, and has had on forensic and other legal expert guests.

He hasn't forsaken politics, but is now definitely dwelling less on political topics and more on pop culture issues.

His on air persona is Joe Pesci without the profanity, and is at least entertaining.  The only downside is the network schedule with loads a TON of commercial inventory on the schedule, especially at the bottom and near the top of the hour.

His show podcasts are available for free from WOR's website.

A late night show with little distribution.  Sounds like a real losing combination.

Actually Lionel gets more distribution than Majority Report and Mike Malloy, especially on the Entercom and Clear Channel outlets.

Granted, he got cancelled on Premiere, but give Lionel a break...the WOR Network is the worst of the worst. I enjoy a show that can talk about other issues when the political scene is rather dry.  And the free podcasts are great... I found myself listening to an hour or two everyday... at least until the Baseline Killer here is central Phoenix ended my ability to podcast and walk.

Boy, Baroosk, you just can't stand the idea of non-AAR progressive talk programming having a place in the world.
And exactly what is the source/basis for these numbers you cite as Gospel?

Let's start in New York (something like 6% of the surveyed population).
Lionel's on WOR (so add New Jersey, Connecticut and much of the Northeast corridor).
Malloy's on - no, he's not.

It's based on the Lionel affiliates listed on WOR website.  Check it out.

Please provide a link.
I see no list of Lionel affiliates on either:
http://www.wor710.com/ or
http://www.worradionet.com/.

And where did you get the numbers of Majority Report and Malloy?
And how were these percentages determined?
C'mon, you can do better than this.

FYI: Lionel's weekday show is carried on 57 affiliates and his Saturday show is on 69 stations.

I didn't do the math for MR and Malloy.
