Ken Matthews is GONE!
« on: September 11, 2006, 12:25:13 PM »

After something like 15 years Ken Matthews exits from WAEB FM B104. Wow, another change in the LV. With WLEV becoming more of a HOT AC will WAEB make any format tweaks, too? Or was this simply a case of long over due change? The guy has a reputation for being a MAJOR ego case and I don't know a single person who has worked with him (and I know a lot ) who like him. Too bad for Ken, though. Looking for a new gig after 15 years in one place will be a bit of a shock.

Was it his choice or theirs?

it's hard to believe anyone would voluntarily leave a heritage morning show unless they got a really really really (purposely?) crappy contract renewal offer.

Since the original poster mentioned WLEV ...

Any chance Matthews is sitting out a non-compete after getting a better offer from Citadel to do mornings on 100.7?

The Morning Call article said it was Clear Channel's decision, not Matthews' decision.  He will remain a Clear Channel employee according to PD Laura St. James.  Article URL:  http://www.mcall.com/news/local/all-5b104sep12,0,5987709.story

I am very upset about Ken Matthews being gone from B104.  When I listened to him in the morning I felt like I was listening to someone who was on the same page as me.  He loves God, his country and, yes, George Bush.  He was a major supporter of doing the right thing and challenged us in the Lehigh Valley to take a stand and live doing the right thing.  We live in crazy times!  I felt that Ken took those crazy times seriously but tried to put some humor into life.  I think  Clear Channel and B104 has made a serious mistake.  I am beginning a letter writing campaign today to express my feelings.

Gee, I really thought that there would be more discussion on this topic. I mean, Ken Matthews had been on the air at the same station doing the same shift for 15 years. He gets tossed and only a few of us express an opinion on the subject? What about the former co workers who hated him? Talk to us. What about the former coworkers who loved him. Talk to us. Somebody, anybody talk to us! I'm begining to really hate this board.

Sorry to see Ken disappear so quickly, but I know how quickly personalities and music formats go in & out of favor.

Ken and our family attend the same church; it's a large church, so I don't necessarily pick out individuals from week to week.  Ken did voiceovers for our monthly announcements video, and supported the church in other ways.

Since I'm not a fan of B-104's music, I never listen to the station itself.  I'm an NPR / all-news fan; my regular diet is WDIY/WHYY/KYW/WVIA.

Ken had been on for what 16 years or so? This is just crazy. Who in heaven are they going to replace him with? Hmm....another case of Cheap Channel trying to save money. I thought he was doing pretty well in the ratings. And how many morning shows in the Valley had he outlasted?

Agreed yocco!!! Does not make too much sense does it and I actually liked listening to him back a few years ago. That is a shame.

I don't know how many more show changes WCTO and WLEV have had during his time, too many to count.
