First Broadcasting initially programmed WOXY as a hard-edged rocker, but dropped the format May 30 in favor of the hot new "shuffle" oldies format, which claims a play list of several thousand tunes "randomly" playing hits from the '70s and '80s.

Actually, Mr. Bird, The format is 60's through the present. Maybe, should actually listen to the station before reporting on it.

He also made it sound like their naming the station contest was a brand-new concept in Cincinnati. In fact, KISS 107 FM did the same thing when they switched from Channel Z.

But I think it's pretty safe to say that CC had already settled on the KISS handle. That's what they were doing with all of their CHRs back then. I remember thinking at the time that the contest to name the station was just a PR thing to generate some interest.

Right, but it was still promoted as a contest. Who's to say First doesn't already have a name picked out and are just waiting for a listener to send in the name that matches the one they've picked.

No doubt. The contest ends at 3:00 p.m. July 31. If they come on the air the next day with a name, fully produced promos, imaging, etc., I'd say that's a dead giveaway.
