Well, I simply cannot apologize.  The format was for the BMW driving whites.

No, it wasn't (or has not been for 15-20 years). It is a coalition format, with a high percentage of Blacks ans some Hispanics.

I have read all the comments about The Oasis morphing into Movin 107.5.  Here is my take on it.  Even though I love the format of Smooth Jazz, The Oasis to me had become boring.  I remember back in 1988 when I discovered 106.1 The Oasis.  Gannett did a wonderful job with the format back then.  I never heard the same song twice in a day.  They played more new age music.  Musical Starstreams came on at a decent hour on Sunday nights.  My problem with the present day Oasis was they played to much R&B for my tastes.  Now I don't mind Norman Brown's version of "Thats The Way Love Goes", but I dont want to hear Janet Jackson's verison. That was a turn off.

We can debate who were the most avid listeners of the Oasis.  I think the station had one of the most varied listenerships in this market.  If CBS felt that The Oasis was not making the money it should have, then they had to do something.  I think the Movin format can be viable, but who knows what is going to happen.  Personally I wish the Oasis would have gone back to the pre-CBS ownership days.  We mourn the death of a truly unique format.  Maybe Clear Channel will bring the format back via Broadcast Architechture Smooth Jazz Radio Network on 97.1.

I agree with salemjedi54, The Oasis truly was better when Gannett owned it.  There were more varied taste and formats in the songs selected when it was owned by Gannett.  I listed some examples before such as Level 42's "Sleepwalking" and a song by the group, Horizont, that I can't remember the name of, along with Chet Atkins doing some jazz guitar work as well.

I was listening to Art Goode's JazzTrax on www.jazztrax.com recently and he played this killer song by Bob James called "Sun Runner".  I NEVER heard it on The Oasis and it is such a great song.  Also a song by Grover Washington, Jr. called "My Favorite Love Song" is another great song that wasn't played on the station.  I just discovered that song myself from one of his CD's.  It is a shame that radio has to follow SUCH a rigid format and that was what was great when The Oasis first came on, many times, you had no idea who the artist was.........

As an example, JACK-FM plays what they want, or so they say.  Yet, you really don't hear the same songs over and over and over like you do on The Oasis or any other "normal" station that sticks to a pre-determind program list.  Wouldn't it be cool to go back to the way The Oasis used to be?  Now that was a unique station!  I even brought that up at an event one time with some of their staff members, they said well we have to play more "main-stream" stuff................

Main stream is boring.................I also miss Musical Starstreams as well, when it used to be played at a decent hour, as mentioned from the poster above.

Unbelievable that we need another black rythmatic station.  97.9 94.5 104.5 106.1 106.7 93.7.....Hopefully someone will wake up and bring back the OASIS. I listened today at smoothjazz107.5 and God did I miss them.

107.5 is not "Black rhythmic."  It is targeted at 2nd generation Hispanic females 25-44 and suburban soccer moms in the same age group. It probably has less than zero appeal to Blacks. All it is is rhythmic CHR without the hip hop and without the edgy or rock sounding stuff.

93.7 is La Raza and is regional Mexican; I can hardly see how that would qualify as "Black rhythmic."

106.7 is a "reggaetón" format in Spanglish. It also has less than zero Black appeal.

So you are complaining that Metroplex Blacks, who are 14% of the market, have all of four stations to listen to that are tailored to them... out of 36 FMs in the market.

OldGringo,

If The Oasis had zero appeal to blacks, why is it then when they would have free listener concerts, I would say at least 50% of the audience were black members?  I am certain The Oasis had a great deal of black listeners as well.
