Canada is in a pickle with the system.. most vehicles in Canada are built with US-Spec receivers... no sense in GM or Ford or any of the Euro manufactuers in building Canadian-Only vehicles with Eureka receivers.

You are correct, we'd probably be running web-quality audio on Eureka, too. Heck, US Broadcasters are advocating cutting AM bandwith to an ear-screetching 5kz.

Digital has never been about quality, it's always been about multi-casting. Nothing like 3x as many channels of now-digital dreck.

On-air and engineering from 1976 to 1997 in markets ranging from #86 to #2. Fortunate to have witnessed the last great days of AM Top 40, and the last great days of independently programmed, creative personality radio...

As an engineer who was also on the air I can tell you much of my air sound came from working the processing with my voice, or using the compression to do better transitions and mixes.

A/D/A delay has made that impossible. But, as you pointed out most of the jocks aren't live anymore anyhow. Part of the general deterioration of broadcast radio.
