Quote
A male prostitute alleges that he had a three-year relationship with prominent right-wing evangelical leader Ted Haggard, who has said that homosexuality is a “sin” and “devastating for the children of our nation and for the future of Western civilization.” Haggard denies the allegation.

Game plan for Haggard.  Two choices, based on recent political history.

1.  Resign from church.  Admit gay, blame alcohol, enter rehab.  Send surrogate to issue statement, admit being molested by Catholic priest.  Write book.

2.  Say that anyone who would believe these allegations, and not that the President got us stuck in Iraq, is crazy.  Call those who agree with the allegations despicable and liars who never served in uniform.  Say that naughty bits in other naughty places was simply a botched joke about the President.  Deal with backlash of statement.  Issue non-apology apology for "any offense taken" by the male prostitute to the words or actions muttered on those sensual nights playing with naughty bits.  Hide from sight for remainder of week.  Have surrogates say that "Haggard is not on the ballot".

Either one will work to get the media off your back, apparently.

JM, funny as hell, nice post.

The facts show that liberal democrats are far more depressed and give much less money and time to charity than conservatives.

Most liberal democrats find Bush more evil than Osama Bin Laden, sick

JM, Sorry to butt in but I am going to have to call you out on the above bashing and hate speech.  Bashing and hate speech has been defined as anything so subtle as "I thought liberals supported the gay movement."  And here you are saying that being gay is caused by too much alcohol and prior molestation by a priest.

Certainly you far exceeded my hate speech and bashing.  Right?  Undecided

Liberals have no problem with government oppression as long as it's mandatory and applied equally to all Americans.

For an answer, I'd like to know what some liberals seem to think it is their business what two grow men do behind closed doors.  I thought you had a problem with this too, or is there an ideological clause you wish to explain?

The issue isn't what two grown men do behind closed doors. It's when someone is si hypocritical that he comes out (pardon the choice of words) strongly against homosexuality and is proven to be engaging in its behaviour himself.

And you knew that, Herb. Just trying for a snappy retort.

First, here's a link to the story:  Denver Post

Second, what political office does he hold?  Can't call this a "Republican sex scandal" unless he's a Republican office-holder now, can we?  He's the President of an evangelical organization but that's not a public office.  He's likely to be a reigstered Republican, but he's not a party official and he's not identified in the article as a Republican.  For all  you know, he may be a Libertarian, a member of the Constitution Party, or even a Democrat like Jerry Falwell (and he has publicly said that he is a registered Democrat).

You should have title this thread "Evangelical minister implicated in gay sex scandal."   That would have been accurate.

He made it about politics in his own statement: "I've never had a gay relationship with anybody. ... I am steady with my wife. I'm faithful to my wife. I don't know if this is election-year politics or if this has to do with the marriage amendment or what it is," Haggard said.

I thought liberals supported the gay movement?

Grow up and stop the gay-bashing, dial. It's hate-speak like this that shows people what you're really about.

You're the one bashing.  I haven't remotely bashed anyone.  Am I somehow "NOT" allowed to say the word "gay?"   Roll Eyes

Every chance you can, you bring up the issue, and in a crass and insulting way. Your comment was not meant to foster debate, but rather to insult and demean.

Watch it Herb, you will be labeled a gay basher for discussing this subject.

You just made the point better than I possibly could have. Thanks.

Actually, no, JM pointed out recent hypocrisy in a tongue-in-cheek manner. His post was funny; yours was insulting and mean-spirited.

If you don't get that, you're not worth bothering with. And I know you know what I'm talking about. And I know your point in this is to incite. Good luck; sadly, you're showing the rest of the board that not everything is bigger in Texas; certainly, your post is proof that at least one Texas mind can't be described in that manner.
