Total Cincinnati Market numbers
« Reply #11 on: July 16, 2005, 11:08:16 AM »

Mike,

Your numbers are based on the city to city comparison of Columbus and Cincinnati.  Columbus is a bigger city population-wise because it has annexed pretty much all of Franklin County.  Cincinnati is a little more than a third of Hamilton County's population.  But, the Cincinnati market is bigger than Columbus.  Despite that, I suspect that the Hispanic population in Columbus is larger.

The TOTAL Cincinnati market Hispanic population is close to 22,000.  Almost 10,000 of those are in Hamilton County, with less than half in the city.  The total includes Hamilton, Butler, Clermont, and Warren Counties in Ohio and Boone, Kenton, and Campbell Counties in Kentucky.  There are another few hundred in SE Indiana market counties, plus other counties that are further south in Kentucky and to the east in Ohio.

I think a station with a fair signal could do OK with a Spanish format here, considering they'd get a relatively small cume, but probably big TSL.

That's why I say WCIN should go Spanish.  They're not doing anything there, and their signal is right in the middle of Hamilton County and gets into Butler and Warren Counties.  WNOP would also be a good candidate, but they won't drop Catholic programming.

What's interesting is that Cleveland has a Hisapnic population of over 50,000 in the market and I don't know of a Spanish station there.  Is there one?  Indy has two of them with a Hispanic population around 40,000.  Both of them show up and total about a 1.5 share.  Louisville and Lexington also have one station each, but they don't show up in Arbitron.

Politically incorrect promotions at Great American Ball Park might include free burrito night, win a chihuahua, free autographed photos of Cheech and Chong,  Fernando Valenzuela look-a-like contest, shake-those-maracas-for-a-free-beer, first 5,000 paying fans 21 and older get a free giant size container of ------ & Span, and finally, green (score) cards.

My assumption is that XM and MLB have hired play by play guys specifically for that channel.  After all most MLB teams do not have their games in Espanol.  XM's website sucks though so its hard to really know.  Maybe I should sell my few shares of the stock in protest LOL

Well I Know the Reds, Brewers, Cubs, WHite Sox, Tigers, Indians, Braves, Twins, Royals, Orioles, Blue Jays, Nationals, Cardinals and Pirates are the Only Major League teams not to do at least a Partial Schedule of Games in Spanish. THe Blue Jays are the Only Team that i give a True Exemption to not having a Spanish Broadcast team because i really dont think there is much of a Hispanic Population in Toronto. there are probly more French Speaking people in Toronto

That is almost half of all teams that don't have Spanish broadcasts.  I still haven't found out any info on who broadcasts the Spanish games on XM, maybe I'll just listen to the cast one day and see if I can catch the name.

You could do a stunt like I saw recently on WWE Wrestling....have the team ride onto the field on "Juan Deere" lawn mowers.
