As good as last year's furlogh period will this one be has yet to be determined, considering my entire department, myself included, got sacked this morning.

Yes, the buyout/hostile takeover I reported on here earlier this year went through last night. About 60% of our whole division was considered redundant, the whole place's morale went directly down the toilet and the pink slips were flying out of the HR office like a ticker tape parade. It apparently happened very much under everybody's RADAR, including the boss', who was rather dumbfounded when he received his slip.

My search continues for a "fallback" job......

I am now posting aircheck files and such on Youtube under https://youtube.com/user/oldradiotapes on an experimental basis.

When downloading any of these files, please use only the type 22 (720-P) option when available, as it provides the highest-fidelity audio (MP4/192k AAC).

My entire department, myself included, got sacked this morning and apparently the company itself did as well, because when I went back to the office a little while ago to pick up some paperwork, all the desks, furniture and equipment were cleared out, the doors were locked and the "FOR LEASE" signs were posted in many of the windows.

Damn, those guys are efficient!

I suspect the 20 or 30 employees that were lucky enough to keep their jobs after this morning's little shindig were probably relocated to Corporation X's new headquarters in Portland. Shame seeing the building sit empty and lifeless after having been occupied by the same company for the last 80-plus years. I guess when it's your time to go, it's your time to go.......

The "FOR LEASE" signs were posted in many of the windows but the building may not stay unoccupied for long as I hear dmargalotti immediately put his people to work looking into whether a northwest quadrant office would be financially feasible at this time.

Darth, I'm sorry to hear about this real life situation.  But look on the bright side.  You can now pretend to come back east more often now to pretend-visit the pretend main office

At this time we already have a fully functioning Northwest "quadrant" office on the same campus as our long-established Vancouver/Portland satellite, which is already quite adequate for our needs and functionality.

It wouldn't be financially feasible, nor practical. If anything, it'd be redundant......

In fact, I hear there's been some talk amongst the University Board of Directors about shutting down the majority of the VanPDX satellite and consolidating all academic services to the main West Coast operations centre in Clackamas (where I'm based, as you know, and where wgzoo and guvax live) because the satellite is redundant in itself. It would make sense, I think, considering the rather low enrollment that satellite's had as of late, since most of the major classes that were once offered there were moved down to the main campus, and the fact that it's about 20 years older than the main campus.

Quite adequate for our needs and functionality, we'll just leave Darth in charge of everything out there.

Out there, in the real world, things like that happen, but in the FWG (or TFWG as some prefer), we are well-insulated from most unfortunate events.

So what if it's redundant? Most of what we do is redundant. At the FWG, our charity makes redundancies a most welcome part of the economy.

Most unfortunate events such as what happened to Darth yesterday, occur more often when we have a bad economy.

When we have a bad economy a lot of people struggle to put food on the table and keep a roof over their heads but thankfully for those of us here, PowerWorld Industries, LLC is a solid company immune to the ups and downs of the economy which means you are guaranteed to have a job here for as long as you want it.

As long as you want it, it will be there whether it's PowerWorld, the FWG, or TFWG (as I prefer).

Happy Saturday.  Out to spend the day with my nieces.

TFWG (as I prefer) is a favorite ending clue for WMC, which is fine, since it gets us onward to Page 10,000, although with such a beautiful day for swimming and other easy going events it is easy to see how FWG (or TFWG as some prefer) was on Page 8 of unread messages, in the middle of the page listing.
