Well I am listening to Smooth Jazz at work these days due to The Oasis's website, www.smoothjazz1075.com

Even it is "off" the air, I can still listen to it while I work.  Dumbest thing they have ever done in my opinion.

I'll agree, when The Oasis left 106.1 though, the format changed slightly and I don't like all the songs they play on 107.5 or the website in The Oasis format.  There are WAY too many "normal" songs being played on the station and the site.  I don't see Boz Skaggs, Mariah Carey, Gerry Rafferty and Santana actually being "Smooth Jazz" artists.

They used to play some great cuts on 106.1 that they would NEVER play on The Oasis when it moved to 107.5.  Two that always come to mind are "Sleepwalkers" by Level 42 and I can't remember the song, but the band was called "Horizont" and they had a great sound.  The first song off their CD was played a great deal on 106.1.  It was awesome and the format was awesome.  It did change when it moved down the dial..................but I still liked it, it just needed some "tweaking" to be more jazz.

My two cents worth!

What do you think of Diana Krall, Herbie Hancock, Hiroshema, Anita Baker?

Laffer, I like all of those artists and I think they are more "smooth jazz" than Gerry Rafferty, Mariah Carey, Boz Skaggs and Santana............

They might be too "main stream" compared to what The Oasis "used to" play on 106.1 but I'd still listen to them and consider them jazz moreso than what I listed above.

I even remember that the former Oasis on 106.1 played some Chet Atkins, jazz.  Smiley

Look at the numbers coming out... Most markets are trending UP for smooth jazz.  Did ya see San Diego?  #1 Chicago etc.  D/FW without smooth jazz is like LA without a country FM.  Of couse... LA is a different animal - no NFL!?!   Grin

jeff715,

As much as we continue to bitch and moan about it, the suits at all these radio stations are not going to go back to a Smooth Jazz format...........I wish they would though !!

All we can do is hope.  Smiley

I grew up in Dallas and i was in my teens when 106.1 was Jazz and I agree it sounded great. Much better than when CBS got a hold of it.

Laffer,

One thing that I thought about but have neglected to mention.  I wonder if some of these artist that The Oasis were playing happened to be "Columbia Recording" artists?  Isn't that owned by CBS Corp. as well?

I wonder if that is why they played certain artists who to me, were truly not "jazz" artist, in order to sell more CD's of those artists?

Just a thought.............surely that would never happen in radio?Huh   Smiley
