The $64,000 question concerning WQEN...
« on: July 16, 2005, 02:59:59 PM »

> CHRISTMAS came in JULY for PD TOMMY CHUCK and the folks at
> CLEAR CHANNEL Top 40 WQEN (103-7 THE Q)/BIRMINGHAM. At 9p
> last night (7/13), SANTA delivered a signal move-in from
> SPRINGVILLE, AL (45 minutes NORTHEAST of BIRMINGHAM) to a
> 100,000 watt HD signal right in the heart of downtown
> BIRMINGHAM.

> BIRMINGHAM metro, especially areas to the SOUTH and WEST of
> BIRMINGHAM. ALL ACCESS tried to get a statement from TOMMY,

Now the $64,000 question: Will it stay CHR?

I'm not familiar with any real numbers, but I'd imagine Clear Channel would at least see how things shake out with the new signal. Maybe it stays CHR, but leans toward rock/alternative?

I'm pretty confident that 103.7 The Q will stay CHR. This past trend had some of the biggest numbers in a while for 'QEN, so now with a better signal, I think they'll only improve, or at least stabilize in that general range.

I agree. I'm sure they will stay CHR. CHR is one of, (if not THE) most popular format in the country and WQEN is the only CHR in Birmingham. Even if their numbers aren't huge, they can market that to their advantage and get lots of money off that fact. Plus with the new signal, they can only improve in their numbers from here. It's a good station. I hate that I won't be able to recieve the signal here in Huntsville anymore.
