Several months ago 1460 KENO dropped the Sporting News Radio network and replaced it with Fox Sports (which was previously aired on 1400 KSHP). At the time this was very much the trendy thing to do. The quality of SNR kept going down, they were losing affiliates, and many observers were predicting the end of SNR was near. Soon after, when 1140 became Spike, 1140 added some SNR programming, mostly overnights and weekends.
There is an interesting thread on the radio-info sports board titled "Fox...The clock is ticking". Starting August 15th Sporting News will pick up former Fox host Tony Bruno for mornings. He is excellent, the best national radio sports host in the business! In addition, SNR is going to make other changes. The network that a year ago everyone thought was dead is going to have the best lineup in sports radio. Meanwhile, according to the thread, Fox Sports is having constant staff turnover and the newer hosts are described as "vanilla".
If SNR becomes as hot as some experts predict, Will Lotus try to steal SNR away from Infinity and Spike 1140? Would they even be able to? I wonder what kind of contract SNR has with Infinity?
I have mixed emotions about this subject. On one hand, since 1460 is a full time sports station they would be able to devote more time to the network than Spike does (although 1460 does air a lot of local shows). On the other hand, I feel that since Lotus kicked SNR when they were down while Infinty gave them a chance, Infinity should be rewarded with the improved product. In fact, if SNR ends up being as good as expected, should Spike move in more of a sports direction than they are today?
