I've got a pair of SAGE EAS's, on one 'MON 1' is dead, on the other 'MON 2' is kaput
anyone have past experience with inputs failing ? quick cure or FUBAR'd ?

The inputs are quite versatile, I used one input from a speaker out and one from line out. What you said is a bit vague, so I'll risk insulting your intelligence. Sorry if I am, but just trying to help. Are you sure the levels are set correctly? You can access that from the menu on front.
Don't forget, you've got lots of inputs so if the others are OK all is not lost.
My problems with the SAGE were the power supply (found out later I could've replaced the electrolytics in the xfmr) and the printer (lucked out and replaced the electrolytic on the little board and fixed it). Did I mention that I HATE electrolytics?

We had our inputs die on our SAGE EAS a few months ago. It wasn't a quick fix for us; our engineer couldn't tackle it, either. We had to bypass the EAS system for 2 or 3 weeks, but we were able to get our local FEMA office to take it back and fix it for us. I don't know if that helps, but perhaps your local EMA office can provide some answers? Good luck!

You could try calling Harris in Quincy, IL. Jim Tieken is the guy who works on them. He can advise you, but maybe its something simple or else could be a chip replacement. He's at [EDIT].

More than likely the input multiplexer chips.
CD4051's IIRC. And they are socketed :-)
Sensitive to overload. Be sure and keep your audio inputs to around 0 db (.775 volts).

Its been a while since I fixed a Sage but I think there are 2 or 4 cd4051 chips that can cause this problem. These chips are cheap and easy to find and best of all most of the time these chips are on sockets. Replace them and see if it helps. Most of the chips in the Sage are static sensitive so use good grounding practices when servicing it.

well, out of the two units I've look into, BOTH do NOT have sockets
looks like some very careful de-soldering ahead

well, it only took a couple hours
the board is very well made, with eyelets that go all the way thru and are flared for every pin so traces do not tend to lift
I used Solder-Wick on the non-component side, then after as much as possible was wicked up, flipped the legs up to 'vertical' with the tip of an Exacto knife, then wicked the 'back' side of eack leg, then went to component side and wicked along the legs
then used the Exacto to wiggle each leg and make sure it was free in the eyelet
sockets went in with no problems, new 4016's are in place, will take it back to work and re-assemble on Monday
