I have no idea why they keep 100.7. That station needs to go back to serving Pike, Lincoln, and Western St. Charles counties where it has the best signal.
The audio has always been terrible on 100.7 since it has became sports. It sounds like they are perhaps feeding the FM transmitter with a webcast. The Audio is Mono, even though the pilot remains on. I have always thought that they might as well shut off the Stereo pilot, to get more solid coverage, and less flutter. KFNS shares the 100.7 frequency with 100,000 Class C Flamethrower KGMO, a mere 120 Miles or so away, so especially in the summer they have a lot of problems with KGMO skipping in, in the fringes of the signal.
When Big League Broadcasting purchased the stations last year, a friend of mine who owns some other rural FMs approached them about purchasing the station to once again focus on the Troy area, but they decided that they wanted to keep it for the time being.
The station went on the air originally in the early 90s as KZMM, a county station that primarily served Troy, Warrenton, Wentzville, & O'Fallon . In 2001, the owners weren't looking to sell, but the former owners of KFNS came in and paid several times what the Class A suburban rimshot was worth, and they cashed out and used some of their proceeds to open a Dairy Queen and a Convenience Store.
