My nomination for most pointless posting goes to this one, for making such deep, insightful comments regarding the "nominations."  Perhaps our astute critic could take the time and explain his rationale for such thought provoking opinions.

Do you feel better now?  Yup, always makes one feel better about themself when they can dis someone else.  Especially when they do it without giving any rationale, reasoning, explanation or support to it.  Oh and what station do YOU work for "SexyVirusStud"???  (Yes, I meant to misspell it...)

Thanks for your response.  I appreciate your feedback.

Please remember that I made an earlier post on the Best Of Atlanta (slugged "Welcome To Atlanta") but my praise for various personalities, personnel and stations elicited little interest.

Please also keep in mind that the premise of this website is to offer opinions of various radio issues in Atlanta, including programming and personnel.  None of this is personal, as I am sure that many of these radio personnel are fine, upstanding and nice people.  You may be angered and offended because you either know, or are friends with these people.

Having said that, I would be happy to share the objective criteria utilized for making these nominations.  Please see details in ALL CAPS:

> > Okay, here are my nominations for the worst of Atlanta
> > radio.  We'll call it the Radio Razzies:
> >
> >
> > Worst music station:   Star 94
THE MUSIC IS MILQUETOAST, BORING, AND UNIMAGINATIVE.  THE SONGS CATER TO A VERY NARROW NICHE OF MIDDLE-AGED HOUSEWIVES.

> > Worst talk station:   WGKA
THE STATION LINEUP CONSISTS OF SYNDICATED PERSONNEL WHICH WSB AND WGST DID NOT WANT.
> >
> > Worst sports station:  680 The Fan
THE HOSTS ARE MEDIOCRE AT BEST, AND MANY OF THE HOSTS HAD NO ON-AIR EXPERIENCE BEFORE GETTING A SHOW AT 680.
> >
> > Worst station format:  Dave FM
THE STATION PLAYLIST IS TOO BROAD TO APPEAL TO ANYBODY.  WHEN YOU TRY TO BE EVERYTHING TO EVERYBODY, YOU END UP ALIENATING EVERYBODY.

> > Worst overall stations:  (Tie) Star 94 and 680 The Fan
SEE REASONS LISTED ABOVE.

> > Worst morning show:  Steve and Vicky, Star 94
THE SHOW IS LAME, UNFUNNY, AND PAINFULLY BORING.

> > Worst overall hosts:  (Tie) Chris Rude, 680 The Fan  &
> > Perry, 680 The Fan
RUDE RAMBLES AND IS INCREDIBLY BORING FOR A FORMER ROCK JOCK.  IF YOU EVER WONDER WHAT A RESTAURANT WAITER SOUNDS LIKE IF YOU GAVE HIM A TALK SHOW, LISTEN TO PERRY.

> > Most boring host:   Rush Limbaugh (syndicated), WGST
RUSH'S ENTIRE SHOW:  REPUBLICANS ARE GOOD, DEMOCRATS ARE BAD.

> > Most predictable host:  Neal Boortz, WSB AM
BOORTZ'S ENTIRE SHOW:  REPUBLICANS ARE GOOD, DEMOCRATS ARE BAD.

> > Worst syndicated host:  Todd Schnitt (formerly) Real Radio
RATINGS VANISHED DURING SCHNITT'S RUN AS REAL RADIO HOST IN MORNING AND AFTERNOON DRIVE.

> > Worst news anchor:  Sabrina Gibbons, WSB AM
SOUNDS UPTIGHT AND CONSTIPATED.

> > Worst traffic reporter:  Captain Herb, WSB AM
HE PUTS 5 MINUTES OF TRAFFIC INTO A 20 SECOND REPORT.

> > Most unintelligible speech pattern:  Captain Herb, WSB AM
YOU CAN LISTEN TO HIS ENTIRE REPORT, AND HAVE NO IDEA HOW THE TRAFFIC IS.

> > Worst program director:  Tim Dukes (formerly) 96 Rock
WITH UNLIMITED RESOURCES FROM CLEAR CHANNEL, AN UNLIMITED PROMOTIONAL BUDGET, AND TREMENDOUS TALENT AT HIS DISPOSAL (REGULAR GUYS, KIMMER, ETC...), THE STATIONS STILL UNDERPERFORMED DURING DUKES'S REIGN.

> > Worst General Manager:  David Dickey, 680 The Fan
MOST PEOPLE START OUT AS ACCOUNT EXECUTIVES, WORK THEIR WAY UP TO LOCAL SALES MANAGER, NATIONAL SALES MANAGER, SALES MANAGER AND THEN GENERAL MANAGER.  DICKEY HAD *NO* EXPERIENCE AND WAS GIVEN A RADIO STATION AS A TOY FROM HIS DAD.  UNDER DICKEY'S LEADERSHIP, THE STATION CONSISTENTLY GETS A .7

> > Worst programming decision:  6 months of Real Radio 105.3
THE STATION WENT FROM ABOUT A 1.0 SHARE TO .4 IN JUST SIX MONTHS.

> > Worst radio show audition:  David Paul.
DIDN'T MAKE IT PAST THE FIRST 90 SECONDS OF HIS RADIO SHOW.

The Buzz almost always beats them to new music, it's the whiniest alternative station in America. They're only adding that new Seether because out-of-luck they booked them for that Downtown Rocks show.

Too dark, too serious. At least 1690 is somewhat tongue-in-cheek.

> Worst station format:  95.5:The Beat

Rhythmic CHR sucks without a little Dance or SOMETHING else.

> Worst overall stations:  (Tie) 99X and 95.5:The Beat

The Beat doesn't even have a real morning show. Talk about stale music.

Kill JAMZ already! It serves no purpose anymore! Go Rhythmic AC or something.

On a side note. I got to give it up for Q100 for adding lots of new music into the mix recently.

I'm going to challenge several of your statements:

> > > Worst music station:   Star 94
> THE MUSIC IS MILQUETOAST, BORING, AND UNIMAGINATIVE.  THE
> SONGS CATER TO A VERY NARROW NICHE OF MIDDLE-AGED
> HOUSEWIVES.

If Star 94 "caters to a very narrow niche of middle-aged housewives," why does the station get such big ratings with women 25-49 (not a narrow niche), ratings that propel Star to be one of the leading stations 12+?
>
> > > Worst talk station:   WGKA

Not true.  The hosts on WGKA are syndicated on Salem-owned stations across the U.S.

> > > Most predictable host:  Neal Boortz, WSB AM
> BOORTZ'S ENTIRE SHOW:  REPUBLICANS ARE GOOD, DEMOCRATS ARE

Boortz is a Liberatarian.  And while he consistently criticizes the Democrats, I've heard him disagree with the Republican viewpoint more than a few times.

It's true that David Dickey was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.  But he was general manager of Kiss FM for a number of years and was very successful with it.  In fact, at the time, I believe it was sold to Cox at the highest price ever paid for an FM station.  And we're talking about a move-in that didn't have the greatest signal.

I disagree with some of your other selections, but those are just a matter of opinion.

> Radio info is just what it is. A place to put opinions and thoughts within
a string that others read, So is it correct to judge others because of what they think? I wouldnt.  Bring it to a debate, Sure!  THIS IS AMERICA thank
god, or whomever you wish but this is a country based on free thinking ideas
and motions and be glad that you have the freedom to express your views.

As to the opinions , I would have to agree with over half. I know Herb Emory well, Speech patterns, well to say the least, a little over the top, thick with southern accent, but respect him I will, HE MAKES BUKOO BUCKS>> Major Market Radio, Plus could we do it better, with time and training maybe.

Steve and Vicky, Highly rated show, Older man, and older woman, boring,
boring boring. A show full of TM century entertainment pieces, A producer
that talks too much, and just a hokey horrid show.

680 the fan, Love the processing, but the format is real bad.

Wsb am 750. Great informative radio station, First on the air in the south.
Persons who are on the air, well some great, some good, and some I wonder
Why they are there, but love the programming flow, Atlantas morning news,
Ever wondered why they are highly rated, because they are the best at what they
do.

Bottom line:  SVS, and the rest of us are free to make comments, because its
the Good Ole USA, Thanks to the men and women in military uniform who make that possible. Would you rather be in a communist society? Think it over..
Radio info what a site, and thanks for the chance to express ourselves.

And one last category...

WORST STATION SIGNAL:    Any Atlanta Radio Station except WSB-AM.

I like radio but the purpost of the above is simple.  Let's DO SOMETHING TO FIX IT AND NOT CONTINUE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT!  Make this board a useful exchange of ideas, not gripes!  Every post is complain, complain, COMPLAIN!  People...it's getting old!  Either put up or SHUT UP!

Have a nice day.

Now hold on there just a minute, li'l buckaroo.  Captain Herb is one hell of a traffic guy.  Whenever I'm in Atlanta I try to catch the early news on 750.  I find Herb's way of delivering the whole traffic break in one breath, almost like an old-time tobacco auctioneer, to be rather entertaining.  The whole idea is to keep the show snappy, bam-bam-bam, because commuters coming into Atlanta are busy trying to stay alive and don't have time for long in-depth analysis of things. I think the WSB morning news folks rule in Atlanta and rightly so.
