Is Milwaukee next on the "JACK/BOB" hitlist????
« on: June 04, 2005, 05:05:08 PM »

So far Milwaukee seems to be somewhat immuned by the onslaught of Variety Hits formats cropping up nationwide so far.

But then again one has to wonder if "JACK/BOB" is plotting a move into the Beer capitol soon. And Clear Channel, Entercom and Saga do have[or adding] Variety Hits stations in their roster(BTW CC did "JACK"-ed up its All-80's outlet in Chattanooga June 3rd, so if WQBW starts to fizzle out with its 80s/Classic Rock hybrid soon could this be their future too?).

99.1 keeps putting more and more Jack hours on their station. "Whatever, Whenever"

so its Jack every weekday from 7PM-12AM and Friday 12PM-Monday 12AM.

I don'r see "the brew" fizzling out anytime soon. Not with ratings like that. People in Milwaukee love their rock n roll.
Some possibilities might be WMYX,WLUM,WJMR... heck maybe even KLH or LZR if they continue to decline, but thats a stretch.
MYX and LUM are pretty stagnant right now. If I was a betting man thats were I would put my money.
I wouldn't rule out WRIT either. They are really pushing the limit with this disco Saturday night thing. Disco?!?!?! the one fad that was popular cause everyone hated it.I remember back in 78 I was working a station out of Lake Charles LA. I had to do this remote from a disco.... never set foot in one again. Please WRIT disco is dead, leave it that way.

Well they do have the WMYX calls. If they go full-blown Variety Hits they can call it "99.1 MIKE-FM."

Well Jeremy did stated below that WMYX is playing "Whatever" during the evening and weekends, so we'll have to see if they make the first move.

But then again lets not rule out another scenario, WKTI. And they play a lot of 80s and 90s, too.

As for Saga flipping WJMR, that one I don't see happening and they seem to be committed to the Adult R&B format.

As for WLUM's future as a Modern Rocker, I don't see them putting much effort but chances are that they'll stick with the format since they already ruled out the "JACK" idea[for now].

Personally I see no problem with WRIT doing a Saturday night Disco show. After all it does very well at its sister station in Los Angeles(At KBIG).

106.9 WFMR. I think there were several rumors that they wanted to flip away from classical. I don't know if that will happen since WFMR is the only classical outlet in the greater Milwaukee area.

Infinity just flipped their legendary WCBS-FM (oldies) to JACK-FM, as well as WJMK in Chicago.

New Yorkers were stunned by the move.

I was thinking the same thing. If Saga does flip WFMR you can bet a lot of listeners will revolt over this.

What listeners that station actually gets because of their signal.  So I don't see WFMR trying a variety station under any name. As for the one who suggested WJMR go variety.  I don't see that either when they're the only Urban AC station in the market, and its signal covers just enough of the market to reach the demographics.  But I wonder if WMYX would go variety.  I hope not.  I turned off WMYX when I was in Kenosha yesterday because I didn't like the selection as well as Nine FM in the Chicago market.  I ended up listening to WKTI while in Kenosha.
