Isn't that the idea of the whole Wolf Concept? A CHR flavored/delivered Country Station? I know that's the aim of the SFO Wolf that Entercom runs too. Their ratings skew pretty young in Market 4.
Yeah definitely the concept of the Wolf... to an extent. Right now Seattle Wolf is over the top. When they first signed on, they sounded great. Young, upbeat, and both young and old enjoyed listening. Now the talent they are bringing in are young and immature. Some of the antics they are pulling; 'Pants off Friday'. What person over 25 is going to want to listen to some horny 22 year old jock yap about how barely legal chicks with no pants are in the studio!? Or a phone topic: "If your love life was a candy bar, what flavor would it be?"
You would NEVER hear that on a station going after those 25-54 numbers. They are alienating the majority of a key demo. Speaking of alienating demos; country music is more of a 'family friendly' format. What parent would allow their kid under 16 to listen when stuff like that is happening?
I don't think KKWF is bad in all dayparts; Fitz is sounding better, and Lobo is one of the greatest jocks I've ever listened to. I would be willing to bet that Val (mid-days/MD) sees what the possum is doing to that station and is getting out before the ship sinks.
In the past, I agreed with Fitz and others that said The Wolf would win the country battle in Seattle, but with the recent changes under Possum, KMPS is my bet to win.
I've streamed the Wolf in SF, all their big daytime jocks are over the age of 25 (I think their afternoon drive guy is even over 50!!). I really enjoy listening to them down there. Scott is keeping that station in check.
