Funny, ESPN has no listeners? What makes you say that? Because Ryner tells you that? PLEASE...show me the ratings...and if you have them that just proves that you work for the Ticket.

Ticket- guy Talk
ESPN- SPORRRTS
So let me get this straight, if anyone here has access to Arbitron ratings, that's proof that they work for the Ticket?  Ooooookay....

And he's wrong.  ESPN has listeners.  Just not that many of them.  And no where near what KTCK has.  And what's pitiful about that is that at least Russ MArtin can slice and dice ratings and claim that he's #1 in some subgroup (Men 18-34 IIRC)...

While ESPN is losing in every demo, every daypart.  Mornings, middays, PM drive, nights.  Their a** is being kicked.
12+, Men 18+, Men 25-54, PERSONS 25-54, you name it, KTCK is beating ESPN like a red headed step child.

And while I don't work there, I wish I did.  It would be nice to work for a station where (even with their 'problems' (named Greggo) ) you are kicking the crap out of the market in ratings, revenue, national recognition, etc...

Because that might be the problem Tripp, you want "sports". I want entertaining radio.  And since the stations aren't competing in a sports trivia contest, or a journalism contest to see who has teh better coverage, it doesn't really matter who covers 'sports' better.  What matters is who provides the most entertaining radio.  Who draws the bigger audience.  Who makes the most money.

And the winner, hands down, in all those categorys?  As i heard it referred to today, Sport 13 AM 10.

Again no Greggo drops today......So it looks like it's pretty much a done deal....So what would you do. Leave it like it is Rhyner and Corby or bring in someone to replace Greg.....what would you do?

The problem is after, what, 15 years on the scene, do you really want to try and relearn 'chemistry' with a new guy?

On one hand I think they need a non-yuk monkey sidekick, on the other hand, I wouldn't want to be the guy trying to take a (somewhat) beloved 'icon's place...

If you replace "The Hammer", and you talk to much, you're trying to 'steal' the show.  If you don't talk enough, you're 'not bringing anything to the table'.  And EVERYBODY, I mean EVERYBODY is going to have one of those 2 opinions...i'm sure that job pays well, but I'm not sure you could pay me enough to take it.  (If I was qualified, that is...)

Very good points. Bringing in an outsider is a lose-lose situation. For better or worse, the Hardline has always really been Ryner's show. He & the p.d. can "promote from within" and the PM drive ratings on The Ticket will not suffer without Greg.

Btw, for all the posters that slam the ticket for not talking enough X's & O's, if they just called themselves "guys who like sports (and other guy things) a lot" talk; would that make you feel better?

My theory is that they start from the baseline of sports.  That's their "default" setting.  But they're occasionally going to wander off the reservation and talk about other things that interest them. Butthey're always going to return to that baseline.

Sometimes the wandering isn't good. But, to use an extreme example, take Sept 11th.  Everybody else was talking 9-11, do you really think theTicket should have kept talking sports..."20,000 may be dead in New York, but we'll be breaking down the Cowboys coverage problems in "Cover 2" NEXT on The Ticket..."

The thing that I've noticed more and more, is that they seem to get off teh baseline, then rush back to it- seems like 5 years ago, I could go an hour on the Hardline without getting sports...Now, they break for Entertainment news, but come rightback to the baseline next segment with Cowboys talk...They give Gordo a segment, then come rightback with Jerry or Wade...

Excellent perspective, Little1.

Just as sometimes RI threads go off topic after awhile, it is very easy to get it back on topic, quickly.

One reason is because they're now the Cowboys flagship station, so they gotta talk football. I remember when Rhyner and Greggo dismissed football as nothing more than the baseball off-season and would say nothing nice about the Cowboys. I even remember Greggo flat out calling Jerry Jones a son-of-a-bitch.

Don't forget, the first word in Sports Radio 1310 the Ticket is SPORTS!

What's that phrase, "Winning makes the heart grow fonder." Or something like that. At any rate, it's easy to be a car carrying member of the "Anti Cowboy Faction" when they suck. Now that Romo is here, so too is the bandwagon.

As for Greggo, he will land as a highly touted second banana somewhere close by, and if he knows what's good for him, he will find some of his fans trolling blogs and the like.

Maybe we can drop some crumbs and he will come sniffin'  Grin

"Toss out the bait and Greggo will bite" maybe?  In other words, keep talking about him, and he might start posting on the board.  Assuming he isn't already, of course.
