Just got back in town, stuck out east for the holidays. Hope everybody has a Happy New Year.

Hmm, the problem and fix with BC isn't necessarily their morning man walking out, whoever takes it over or a new PD.  It goes much higher. They have a GM that likes to micro-manage and put his thumb on programming (and didn't have much of a programming career to begin with) .  Their tiniker-ized ratings show it and according to some people inside Clear Channel so do their sales.  Someone at the top in Journal isn't paying attention to what's really going on in Tulsa.

BC and KVOO actually had a great programmer hired a few years back in RW Smith (he's in NY state somewhere now I think).  Sharp guy, knew his stuff, had great ideas that made sense, but when he discovered he would really just be an order taker (which he could do at McDonald's if he wanted), he loaded up his car, called the GM, had a cup of coffee and drove off, so the story goes.  Journal wants to keep BC as a second tier station to KVOO.  Why any owner would want to limit any of their stations just baffles me.  BC pulled as much as a 6 share when it first went on the air, and the station was totally ignored by management.

I heard at the Quick Trip at 31st and Sheridan that Bob O'Shea & Dick "Dickeroo" Loftin were coming back as a new morning team on Big Country 99.5. Should be quite interesting.  Shocked

They need to get rid of Ace Doggett he SUCKS. The worst DJ in Tulsa radio!!!!!!!! I don't know him but I hate his voice its bad. PLEASE put him back on traffic ONLY.

Actually, Ace Doggett has a great voice.  His presentation is robotic and he does lack polish and confindence.  However, he is light years ahead of where he was when he first came to work at Journal.  The worst on air voice in Tulsa radio currently does weekend radio news for Cox Broadcasting.  Now he SUCKS!!!!!  But at least I had the decency to leave his name out [EDIT].  If you think you can do a better job then put in for an audition.  I bet you'd pee your pants if they put a live mike in front of your rude face.

I just got off the phone with Loftin.  Yeah we both worked for that blow torch of a rocker KWEN back in the 70's.  No there's a feature length film on how to tinker a successful radio station into oblivion in six short months.  Journal Broadcast Tulsa is doing the same thing in reverse.  I can't wait to see if this new PD really holds sway.  I hope he does for his and the music station's sake.  For the seven years I was there under Journal management, it was just one screw up after another.  And then there is the current GM.  Not a bad guy really, he just thinks he knows programming better than a real PD.  NOT!!!  Randy, if you read this take a hint or at least look at your numbers.

As far as Loftin and I getting together on a morning show.....not in a million years.  Dick and I have had enough.  We've paid our dues many times over.  The radio industry Dick and I got into as young talents has gone straight to hell.  Journal Broadcasting shouldn't even have a license to broadcast.  Personally I'm embarrassed for Tulsa radio for a host of reasons I don't even want to get into right now.  I feel sorry for my friends who are still there.  They are great talents who aren't allowed to be all they can be.

Bob-you were great on 99.5.  Too bad you left.  Did you ever work for KBEZ?

There are several good radio people in this town.  Tulsa radio has always had good talent that don't want to leave.  Some of the people that we hear everyday are better than people in the major markets.  They just seem happy to stay here.

I hope you come back to radio Bob.   Maybe someone will have the sense to hire you back.
