Salisbury Ratings, some thoughts
« on: January 18, 2008, 07:22:09 AM »

After looking at the Fall 12+ numbers in the Salisbury-Ocean City area here are some thoughts. Clear channel may have the top two stations, but guys you've got to work on the others. Kiss-FM is a dud, pair it back up with 92.1 The Wave. 96 Rock finally is showing some growth. Sport Talk DOES NOT WORK, the Gospel a few years ago did better. The Adult Standards does not work, Radio Disney did better. What's up with Magic 98.9, they had OC-104 on the ropes, OC 104 stayed flat, but Magic dropped. Cheap Channel is killing its other signals. Until that place is sold, it's going to continue without a sail.

Great Scott, The Beach is back, But everything else is down. The cexception is WKHW K-Rock, but that's because they LMA it to Bay Country, which finally has it on an up swing.

Delmarva, signal problems are a killer. WICO-FM is right next to WAFL, their station in Milford, Delaware, with Bay Country just above that. Maybe they need to consider moving WICO-FM to WXMD's 92.5 since it is dead last, and simulcast Eagle 97.7 on 97.5. Another option would be to simulcast Wico-AM on the FM, it grow in the Fall even though it only runs 1,000 watts day and 23 watts at night.

Something smells about WQMR coming in 8th. This station has signal problems, runs mostly second level talk shows, and only has two hours live a week. The even dropped local news in the morning, so how did they show at #8?

Fnally, congrates to Mike Powell's Bay Country and LMA'd K-Rock, small numbers, but they dominate te Pocomoke City area by serving the community.

92.1 The Wave serves a good niche....the KISS thing really is a waste.  I still believe the best thing to do with 105.5 is create a flanker for Froggy and let it play some good classic country.  They could open up the classic library and have some fun with it.  Position it older than Froggy, yet enough to shave some ratings from Cat Country.  Just my two cents worth, and I woulod imagine it could be pretty cheap to run.  Heck they can use the Froggy jocks to voicetrack...lol.  Oh wait, they use them on Q, Wave, and 95.9 too....my bad...lol.
