100.5: Re-gifted 96rock in a shiny new package.

I can not listen to that station at all. Let's hope Rock 100.5 has a broader palylist than the 250 songs the River plays and has not touched in over a year.

I got sick of the river after 2 weeks.

I got sick of it after 2 days.  By that time I was already hearing repeats.

We get the point today that you are against this new station. I looked at the River's top 100 and only spotted a few songs so far played on 100.5 Based on what I have heard today and the River's Top 100 I would be surprised if more than 15 - 20% was a cross-over with the River.

I am not against the station or the music.  I compared the Rock 100.5 playlist from various hours to the playlists of 97.1 The River, Project, and 99X using yes.com

At 3 PM...

Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing - played on 97.1
Van Halen - Top of the World - played on 97.1 (occasionally)
Alice in Chains - Man In The Box - played on Project and 99X
The Rolling Stones - Can't You Hear Me Knocking - played on 97.1
.38 Special - Caught Up In You - Played on 97.1
Aerosmith - Back in the Saddle - Played on 97.1
Nicelback - Rockstar - played on Project and 99X
Bad Company - Ready for Love - played on 97.1
Ted Nugent - Free For All - not played on any other station
Collective Soul - December - played on 99X and on Project (occasionally)
ZZTop - Just Got Paid - played on 97.1

Out of 11 songs that hour, I can easily find 6 of them on the 97.1 playlist.  I also tried this with other hours and found similar results.  Also, many songs that 100.5 played were found in the top 100 most played songs on 97.1 The River.  So, it's not as if Cumulus brought a unique rock format such as deep album cuts or the Boneyard channel on XM.  This station is mainly just 97.1 The River with a few modern rock tracks and the occasional deep cut thrown in.

Seriously, this station has not even been in its new format for even 24 hours. Why would you go this far and attack a new station? Give it time... we don't know if this will be the full playlist. As far as I'm concerned, this is what Atlanta was missing since 96Rock left us. I'm happy we have this format ... if you don't like 100.5 , go listen to your River. 100.5 is absolutely not the dry River. What's your deal with putting this new station down? Cumulus did good by bringing back the Regular Guys and putting the Rock back in Atlanta!!

By afternoon, the ad was updated. They ran so many ads for them today that some must have been freebies anyway.  Part of the issue was Woolfson's website direct you to a web page specific to 99x. They did not tip the client off ahead of time we the exact change, But we have seen today that no matter what they do you are going to criticize.

No, actually if they do something right I might even give them props.  But so far, I'm not impressed. When I am impressed, I'll voice it.

Someone from Nashville here to bug you all...sorry if this has been asked...what is going on with the call letters? What are 99.7's new calls if any? Wikepedia says 100.5 is rock and WWWQ.  I didn't read every thread - I'm sure this has been posted already!  Again, sorry for asking. BTW it sucks that 99X is gone...I've driven through Atlanta 1000 times and it was always my favorite.

There were a lot of threads for you not to read - including two on just the call letters. Nobody can make a move in Atlanta radio without listeners fully dissecting it on radio-info

thumbs up to Rock 100, it was also cool to hear Axel doing afternoon drive. he kinda sounded a little almost taken back when he lead into playing Great White's "Once Bitten" but I am glad he is there. I think Rock 100 will do well, they are picking up where clear channel turned 96 Rock into another turd filled garbage can. TRG have a good show and hopefully despite the lower power 100 will reach it's top demos.

FWIW I still think the 100.5 signal has much better fidelity than 99.7, on my FanFare they sound incredible. Who needs compressed garbly satellite when you can have live sounding stereo FM? I still miss 99X though...

Well I'm about ready to dish out some money and get XM or Sirius.  I'll hang in there a little longer I guess.

You should get one anyway... the plug in xm units are cheap and it's 14 bucks a month. Everyone should own one. 95% of my listening is done on my XM. You can always punch in the RG's or any other show in Atlanta whenever you want. It's not like if you have XM you can't listen to local stations....you'll just end up NOT listening to local stations.

Truth...for the first year or so, the only time I listened to local radio was at lunch time for the retroplex.  It is, however, a great avenue to listen to specific genres, or in some cases, play lists of music.  But local radio tends to feel like home, so there can be that balance.
