Long overdue ... I sure hope they do well enough to stay on a while!

From an email from Don Barrett/LARadio.com:

'Triple AAA Sound Arrives at 100.3/fm

(April 8, 2008) The stunting didn’t last long with the Bonneville takeover of 100.3/fm (former V-100). At  10 a.m. this morning, with an all-out dedication to The Music, Bonneville International launches  – 100.3 The Sound. The new Adult Rock (Triple A) format is described in a press release as a fresh and entirely unparalleled commitment to The Music and its rich heritage.

Bonneville will retain the current KRBV call letters during an interim period while it applies for new ones. And, 100.3 The Sound will provide live streaming on its Web site,

www.TheSoundLA.com.

Bonneville president/ceo Bruce Reese voiced the company’s excitement about its new format and offered a portrait of the new station. “It’s great to be back in L.A.,” he said, “and we are truly excited about our new station. The Sound will be a music station that has absolute respect for the music and that features a broad playlist, everything from the seminal rock of the late ‘60s and ‘70s to the offspring of those geniuses, including some great music that came out last year, even last week.

“If we do this right,” he continued, “we’ll surprise our listeners every so often, sometimes with a great song they haven’t heard for a while, sometimes with a song they haven’t ever heard, and sometimes with a song they may not even think of as ‘rock.’ Our goal is to provide Los Angeles with music that’s familiar without being stale, new without being obscure. Count on this from The Sound: Everything we do will be with respect for the music and the listener.”

Both the on-air conversation – it, too, is all about The Music – and the musical format of The Sound find their roots in Bonneville’s belief that great music is defined not by the date it was recorded but by the quality of the performance, the virtuosity of the artists, and the richness of the songwriting. Adding to the station’s unique musical focus, The Sound also will embrace another longstanding Bonneville tradition of community involvement, helping to keep its listenrs informed and provide them with opportunities to get involved in making things better in their community.

Bonneville Executive Vice President Drew Horowitz will be responsible for all operations of 100.3 The Sound, and he underscored the company’s enthusiasm for its new station. “What an exciting time to be back in the L.A. marketplace,” he said. “I’m looking forward to helping Bonneville build another world-class station. The opportunity to get re-engaged, serving the L.A. community and making a difference there, is truly exciting for us. “We’ll be hiring a full staff on The Sound in the near future,” he continued. “Bonneville VP/Programming Greg Solk will be partnering with me on the launch and hiring staff, and he will assume interim GM duties.”

“At the beginning,” Reese said, “we hope this will be our listeners’ favorite ‘spot on the radio dial.’ Over time, however, we want The Sound to become the best musical media experience for them. We’ll connect our listeners with great music in more places and in more ways than they would ever expect from their radio.” '

Nobody said that there are no listeners for AAA. However, in LA the market demos are such that there are not going to be very many listeners, compared to Denver or Portland or someplace much less ethnic.

I had no idea what 'AAA' was so I listened to their 'net stream for awhile.

Now I know why no one listens.

This station will do fine.  Bonneville wouldn't give this format a chance if they couldn't make money $$ (and, they will). From a loyal AAA listener in Redondo Beach/L.A. - Joe G
