At WBYR, Ft. Wayne we played the Tesla's version of "Signs" which said "F***ckin up the scenery". We replaced it with the cleaned up version. Wow, could I have gotten away with saying "booger"?

"They're Coming to Take me Away-Ha Ha" was a 1960s novelty hit by Napoleon XIV. It'd be pretty politically incorrect today.

Disbturbing? Well, there was the Buoys hit "Timothy" which was about a poor guy getting et. It was the story of a mine disaster where 3 were trapped and only two survived because Timothy was cannabilized (Yes, the record company tried to backtrack and said Timothy was a mule, but songwriter Rupert Holmes (Escape-The Pina Colada song) verifies the intention was to write a song that would get banned and yes Timothy was human and...they ate him.

Once played "Close My Eyes Forever" (Ozzy Osborne/Lita Ford) and "Don't Fear the Reaper" (Kansas) in the same hour. (It's the Suicide Hour!). It don't get more disturbing than The Doors "The End", especially with the original lyric.

lita ford,ozzy 1989's hit
"Close my eyes forever" is about suicide.

neeeeever gave it any thought, but since it was slow,
and kinda-warm feeling...to it, i thought maaaybe
about a relationship ending....wow.

that is haunting (now) they way i remember (since i havent
heard it a looooooooong time) ...how ozzy repeats
"close....my eyes"

Don't Fear the Reaper is Blue Oyster Cult. Minus the cowbell.

So was Queen's "Don't Try Suicide" and "Don't Close Your Eyes" by Kix, & another Ozzy- "Suicide Solution by Sabbath(the one he went to court over) but those are all anti suicide tunes.

Perception is everything.  "Cocaine" was an anti-drug song, and "Born In The USA" had nothing to do with being patriotic though both songs were considered the opposite.

I'm surprised none of the older posters mentioned "If You Want To Be Happy" by Jimmy Soul. The song extolls the positives of marrying a woman who isn't exactly "fair of face". The line "she'll always give you a piece of a$$" always cracked me up but, as I learned later in life, the guy's philosophy about pretty women was right on for the most part...

As long as Canada has been mentioned, I have 2 items. First of all, IIRC the "Rodeo Song" was played unedited in parts of the prarie provinces. Also, I always wondered what standards were in place up there. In the early 90's during a sensational murder trial in Ontario, the judge ordered a media ban on trial coverage but nobody raised an eyebrow when the morning guys on CFNY referred to one of the royal family as a "dic*head"...
The reason why no one has mentioned it is because the actual lyrics are "she'll always give you peace of mind."   Roll Eyes

Now, 'scuse me while I kiss this guy!   Grin

Yeah, the Jimmy Soul song was early 60s...no way that would have made it on the air. There was a redo of Lou Christie's "Rhapsody in the Rain" the original lyric was "making love in the rain" the "clean" version I believe said "making out in the rain".

I know there's entire sites deticated to these, but I remember Stevie Nicks "Stand Back" where I used to think she was saying "Like a wierdo I can bend" (actually was Like a willow I can bend" Cheesy...Same with "Love Will Find a Way" by "Yes" -it sounded like they were saying "I eat and shave you" Cheesy Cheesy (really saying "I eat at chez nous"...huh??? Huh

Every Time You Go Away..you take a piece of meat with you"? "All right, I'm leaving and I'm taking that steak in the freezer!!". There's a misheard lyric in Chic's "Good Times" that sounds like "Are You Straight or Bi?". I'm not sure what the real lyric is.
