Best FM signal in Charlotte

I know that there are a lot of people from around the Carolinas that listen to Charlotte's FM stations.

I live just southeast of Charleston, SC, on James Island, and I can frequently get V-101.9, usually the only thing on its frequency, and sometimes get 107.9 the Link, when nothing else is coming in.

Before IBOC noise came into big play, WSOC came in sometimes. Even now, I get WRAL from Raleigh, often very well, in Charleston during the mornings.

Other times, I can get Lite 102.9, but it often mixes with stations in Statesboro, GA and Jacksonville, FL.

Of course, some of the outlying market stations are better, like WSPA in Spartanburg. I have picked them up in almost every location around South Carolina with my Grundig S350, from Cherry Grove Beach (near North Myrtle Beach), to Charleston (when the station from McClellanville was on the air).

You can listen to them on I-26 all the way down to Orangeburg on a good day, and that's the same with Whistle 100 from the Upstate.

I have to agree with you about WBAV V101.9. I was in Charleston last year and was able to pick them up. They have a very good signal into parts of Columbia, SC and north as well. I listen to WIBT 96.1 The Beat a lot here in the Columbia area. So, 96.1, 101.9, 102.9, 103.7, and most of the time 99.7 are very easy to pick up 100 miles away.

Other than the R-1 stations, and of course 106.1, most all of the Charlotte FMs would have to be considered flamethowers--HOWEVER---almost all of them do have reception issues in one direction or another.  V101.9 is impaired even in Rowan County--due mainly to 102.1 in the Triad.  WPEG has a supurb signal to the east and west, I've recieved them well from Durham all the way to Greenville SC, but to the north and south, not so good.  Most of the Charlotte FMs receive interference from coastal stations, often Charleston stations, even within the metro area, during skip conditions.  My experience is WLNK has the best overall coverage.  Going north, they keep going long after the other Charlotte stations give up the ghost, at least to I-81 in VA.

Hey Fort..... The Link does have one killer signal... Back in the day when Kiss 102 was kickin it loud and proud they also had one heck of a signal as well... You could hear them jammin' pretty good even in Columbia... I seem to remember also that WSOC had a pretty decent signal as well... I remember them talking about getting calls from VA, SC and on thos weird times even GA, but that was with temp inversion..... CC1

104.7 WKQC has a tough time South because of 104.7 WNOK in Columbia. Can you say short spaced?

Once Charleston's 96.1 goes full C 100k@ 1800", WIBT probably won't be so easy a catch in Columbia.

Someone mentioned WPEG in Durham.  It, and WEND 106.5 are arguably the most reliable Charlotte market FM catches here, followed by WYFQ-FM, then WSOC and WKQC.

Once that happens, 96.1 WIBT will be a MUCH easier catch. Their not too bad to pick up now honestly. Their signal has no problems all the way down I-26 til you get south of Newberry. After that, it's spotty here and there with interruptions from WAVF.

This thread should probably be renamed -who has the best signal FROM the Charlotte area-...IN downtown Charlotte, specifically the corner of Trade and Tryon, the station that tilts the field meter the most is 92.7...a class A! (their transmitter is just up the street) Not long ago I was driving up hwy 64 to Raleigh and listening to 104.7 almost to the Beltway.
